Session 1
Introduction to Email from a Security Perspective
Having a high-level understanding of how email works and why it is inherently unsecure will help set the stage for how bad actors exploit email vulnerabilities. From there we will cover common tactics and dive into detailed examples of various email attack types. The session will then finish with an introduction to email authentication methods and how they can help close the gaps in your email security.
In our first session our instructors will cover:
- An overview of email’s inner workings
- How email can be used for malicious activities
- Real examples of various email-based attacks
- Background and timeline of Email Authentication
Session 2
The Ins and Outs of Email Authentication
Building on the first course’s introduction to the vulnerabilities of email, we will dig deeper into email authentication methods that can be used to help stop sender impersonation. We will discuss the concept of DMARC, its benefits and challenges, and introduce the role BIMI can play in deliverability.
In the second session, our instructors will cover:
- Email authentication methods
- The concept of DMARC
- The steps and challenges with implementing DMARC
- The concept of BIMI
Session 3
DMARC as a Journey, Not a Destination
For our final certification session, we will pull together all the previous concepts and outline the process of creating a plan for success. We will also cover how you can effectively evaluate AI/ML-based products that can help you on your journey and share our insights into the importance of maintaining a plan beyond reaching your p=reject policy goal.
In this third session, our instructors will cover:
- Setting a plan for success
- Aligning SPF and DKIM
- Reaching p=reject
- Shifting to maintenance mode
- Identifying and resolving domain impersonation
- Exploring solutions available to help address these

There are some questions:
Keep in mind that in order to be able to take the exams, you must use a business email. Please do not register with a personal email such as those with the domain “gmail” or “yahoo.”
Please consistently use the same email you registered with throughout the program to ensure the accuracy of tracking your attendance towards getting certified.
After filling out the form on this page to enroll in our certification program, you will receive an email from us confirming your spot reservation. We will send you separate emails within 3-5 business days for you to download your calendar invites and your links to join the live sessions. Please double check your spam folder and email security settings for these emails.
Please note that our live sessions have a seat limitation and will be on a first-come first-served basis. If you are unable to join the live session, you can always watch the recording on-demand to count towards your certification.
If you are unable to attend a live session, you may watch the recording and take the exam by April 26th, 2024 at 5 PM PT.
To pass a course, you would have to attend the session either live or watch on-demand and take the exam at the end of the course. You need to score 100% on each exam to pass the course.
You have unlimited attempts to take the exams to get 100% scores to pass the courses.
You will have until April 26th, 2024 at 5 PM PT to access the course recordings and exams to complete your certification.
Each session is about 1 hour long. Each exam will be about 15 minutes.
The courses and certification are free.
Yes. You are required to watch all three sessions (either on-demand or live) to be eligible for your certification in addition to passing all of your exams.
The exam(s) will automatically be available to you on the Proofpoint training platform AFTER you've completed the required session(s).
If you are running into problems logging into the Proofpoint training platform, please go to account.adobe.com. You'll create an account using the same email address you used to enroll in this course, and then you'll be able to access the course modules.
Once you've completed all the sessions and passed all the exams, you will automatically receive your digital badge and certification via Credly. You may login to your Credly account to accept or download directly in Proofpoint's training platform.
All 2022 graduates for Ransomware, DLP, and Phishing are eligible to get their badge(s) and certificate(s) renewed for 2023. Follow the instructions at the link here. We will open up more badge renewals for 2023 graduates later this year, please stay tuned.
